 I am glad to welcome you to the International Maritime Defence Show and congratulate you with its opening.

Saint-Petersburg is rightly considered to be the sea gates of Russia and one of the biggest centers of the national shipbuilding. And the presentation of the Russian and foreign shipbuilding's achievements is held on the Baltic shores reasonably.

You are going to see modern warships and their arming, learn more about innovations in the sphere of power-engineering, navigation and life-saving equipment and brand new developments of the leading shipyards and engineering offices.

I am sure that the Fifth International Maritime Defence Show will help to develop the military-technical cooperation and promote joint research projects.

Traditional Maritime Defence Show in St. Petersburg is reasonably among the largest and the most reputable international shows of naval engineering and weaponry. It attracts the attention of the leading Russian and foreign companies that deals in development and production of combat ships and boats, armaments and various types of military products.

The event has a special status and significance due to the fact that it is held in the city located on the Neva River. For centuries St. Petersburg remains the sea capital of Russia, it is recognized as the center of shipbuilding, naval science and education. The city has a unique port infrastructure and it is ready to berth the most modern vessels.

I am sure that the Fifth International Maritime Defence Show will not only present the latest achievements and new developments of naval techniques but also will give an impulse to the military and technical cooperation with foreign countries and strengthening of industrial and technological cooperation.

 I’m glad to welcome the participants and guests of the Vth International Maritime Defence Show on Neva’s banks. This forum is one of the most major events in the business life of St. Petersburg, the sea capital of Russia and the largest exhibition field of the country.

The chronicle of St. Petersburg became the repercussions of the history of Russian Navy, naval victories and great geographic discoveries, achievements of the shipwrights.

Today our city looks to the future steadily. Shipbuilding and engineering enterprises, design bureaus, research and development institutes and territories of innovative development create the modern economic landscape of the Northern Capital.St. Petersburg is opened for the world. Naval traditions and rich experience of the military-technical cooperation connect us with many countries and continents.

I’m sure that the Vth International Maritime Defence Show will open the new prospects for cooperation in maritime and military-industrial field. In addition it’ll strengthen cooperation between countries and cities.

On behalf of the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Russian Federation I would like to welcome the participants and guests of the fifth International Maritime Defence Show “IMDS-2011”.

The development of shipbuilding is the main purpose of the state industrial policy. We succeeded in creation of long-term program of industry development and projects of new high-technology shipyards.  The final goal is creation of new look of Russian shipbuilding and it must be able to turn out civil and military products that will be competitive for world market. 

The International Maritime Defence Show in St. Petersburg is reasonably occupies the leading position among naval exhibitions in the world. The key task of the Show is promotion of the trade and partner relations with foreign colleagues. In addition we need to expand the international cooperation during the creation of new models of armaments and military equipment.

Only those who can work effectively and create cooperation on the global market are winners in the modern world. The attention that is paid to the International Maritime Defence Show by the foreign countries proves a huge potential of the Russian shipbuilding and shows that such a cooperation is developing.

I am sure that wide business part of the Show, samples of products and exhibits and close production areas will let participants find new opportunities for the development of business contacts that may turn into contracts.
