International Maritime Defence Show IMDS-2009

The fourth International Maritime Defence Show finished its work successfully. It is one of the leading world exhibitions which specializes in shipbuilding and naval arms. The results of the Show prove its significance and that it is in high demand among maritime and naval enterprises. It holds a special place in the system of world maritime and naval exhibitions.
350 enterprises from 28 countries including 67 foreign companies became the participants of the IMDS-2009. The exposition took place in the halls of exhibition complex on total area about 13000 m, on outdoor exposition areas, near the quays of the exhibition complex. Among the participants of the exhibition were the most leading enterprises of maritime sphere. Producers of devices, units, rescue equipment, radio-electronics, materials, component parts, apparatus and software were widely presented during the Show.
The IMDS profile gave an opportunity not only to present the products and exhibits of the participants on the stands and demonstration areas near the quays but also to show in action maritime artillery on the firing range, to discuss various questions during numerous business meetings and congresses.
4 international scientific and practical conferences and 18 congress and business events (round table discussions, seminars, presentations, press-conferences etc.) were held within the IMDS - 2009.
Ships and boats from the Russian Navy and FSB as well as foreign ships from Great Britain, France and the Netherlands were presented at the quay of Sea Terminal:
- Corvette pr. 20380 "Steregushii";
- Frigate pr. 11540 "Jaroslav Mudrii";
- Missile boat pr. 12411;
- Air cushion landing ship pr. 12322 "Mordovia";
- Patrol boat pr. 12200 "Sobol"
- Frigate "St. Albans", Great Britain
- Minesweeper "Sagittaire" and "Pegase", France
- "Johan de Witt", the Netherlands
18 motor boats were presented by the participating companies near the quays of the exhibition complex.
The artillery firing and small-arms systems demonstrations for foreign official delegations took place at the range "Rzhevka", including:
- 130mm ship gun mount AK - 130;
- 100 mm artillery mount AK - 100;
- 76 mm artillery mount AK - 176;
- 30mm artillery mount AK - 230;
- 30 mm lightweight gun mount AK - 306;
- 30 mm automatic artillery mount AK - 630;
- 25 mm artillery mount 2M-3
The potential clients were especially interested in small-caliber systems which can be used for struggle against pirates and terrorism.
55 official delegations from 47 countries visited the IMDS-2009. Almost all countries that deal in production and exploitation of naval and sea equipment were presented during the Show. Two Ministers of Defense, seven Commanders-in-Chief of the Navy and other high-ranked official delegates attended the Show. Wide program of the delegations' work is totally fulfilled. Its format and size became much bigger comparing with the previous IMDS exhibitions. Official delegations visited stands of such exhibitors as: CMDB "Almaz", JSC "Almaz" Shipbuilding Company, «Krylov Shipbuilding Research Institute», «Admiralty Shipyards» and other enterprises of USC (United Shipbuilding Corporation). The work of the Association of Foreign Naval Attache was organized for the first time at the IMDS. It was a special group of Naval Attache from different countries that took part in the exhibition events and highly evaluated the level of the IMDS.
Many official negotiations were held, including such participants as: Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy - 12, representatives of Federal Military-Technical Cooperation Service - 6; "Rosoboronexport" representatives - about 30.
The results of the IMDS-2009 show that in spite of financial crisis Russian and foreign enterprises continue active marketing policy to develop their participation in the international cooperation that is connected with development and production of such complicated multilayered technical systems as ships.
IMDS-2009 Prize Sailing Regatta was held for the third time. This year it got the status that allows to give its participants sport skills categories.
The information support and organization of the IMDS-2009 press-center was provided by St. Petersburg regional center ITAR-TASS. 496 reporters from 148 mass media sources came to highlight the exhibition.
More then 29 000 specialists took part in the Show. Due to the fact that many St. Petersburg dwellers have a strong connection with maritime sphere and to patriotic traditions and interest to the event, dwellers and guests of our city had the opportunity to visit exposition, to see the combat ships near the quays and watch the unforgettable scene - demonstration flights of world-famous Russian Air Force and Air Defence aerobatic teams Russkie Vityazi and Strizhy.
The Show is developing. It proved its high effectiveness and importance.
The organizing committee has already determined the date of next Show (IMDS-2011) - from the 29th of June till the 3rd of July 2011. On the declaration of Commander-in-Chief of Russian Navy there will be the newest models of naval and military equipment from the range of the Russian Navy.
